So, completely unbeknownst to yours truly, Brand Avenue was included in a survey that Architect Magazine is doing. Check it out:
Which of the following websites do you read on a regular basis?
It's quite an honor to be included in such a thing alongside Worldchanging, Archinect, Archidose, and others, especially since most are much larger operations than this one; however, it's baffling why Brand Avenue shows up while the superlative BLDGBLOG, Pruned, City of Sound, and Gravestmor, don't. What about Urbanism.org? It's very good.
It's all rather strange, and I don't do this to win web popularity contests. That being said...I'd love your vote, since it seems you're here reading this...and the survey is about which architecture sites you read...no?
From a conversation with somebody from the magazine after the recent Postopolis! event, this survey isn't so much a popularity contest as part of a larger study of sorts on architectural blogs and their role in architectural discourse, particularly (I think) in relation to magazines and other reputable journalism. I'm guessing blogs like BLDGBLOG aren't included as they're on the margins of architecture, and even though popular with architects they don't necessarily fit with what the mag is doing. Just a guess, though.

Indeed. My blog is a very limited topic blog, an abandoned rail yard with a freeway interchange at one end, yet it has done all right. Exploring this space has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. So I don't think the value in blogs is what others think about it (though that will probably determine pure numbers) but how much the reader feels the person is connected to the subject matter.

John and Neath, of course--points taken. I was sort of kidding. Sorry if that came off wrong! Being included in a survey like this has just caught me off guard, in that the list of sites in said survey seems a bit like comparing apples and oranges.
I feel like Neath does; B.A. as an ongoing project has really helped me explore a body of ideas in architecture and urbanism, ones I'd like to see included in broader architectural discussions--it's very much a labor of love around here.

C'mon, admit it. Deep down you know you want to be popular.
(You got my vote!)

Well...I am quite proud of my 3.4% final showing. Whatever it all means.
(and thank you, Sonia!)
